DIY Light Fixtures to Brighten Your Home
Attempting to DIY your own lighting can be a daunting task. With electrical wires, and fire hazards, a lot of things can go wrong! However, when done correctly, updated lighting can make the HUGEST difference in your home. To help inspire you I’ve rounded up the best DIY light fixtures I could find. When you see just how good (and cheap!) these DIY chandeliers, pendants, and table lamps are, you’ll be dying to try them out in your space.
1. Fringe Is In
Yes I said it! Fringe is totally having a moment in the decor world. With its texture and playful movement, fringe is a go to. And what better way to incorporate it into your home?! This ombre yarn pendant light by Lonny is hitting all the points for me. Pink, gold, and best of all – EASY! They put this statement lighting together with an existing pendant light, spray paint, wire wreath forms, and yarn. No electrical work required. I love the unique blend of a farmhouse pendant shape with the boho fringe texture.
2. Brass DIY Light Fixture
OK wow. I’m literally blown away by this DIY lighting tutorial I found on One Kings Lane. If you love the look of this brass lighting fixture, prepare yourself for a project! This Chandelier isn’t a hack or a modification, you’ll be making the entire thing from scratch! This do it yourself light is definitely a project you can be proud of. Perfect for over a dinning room, or in a bedroom!
3. BOHO Beaded Pendant
Bead chandeliers are very popular right now. They are so versatile and blend with many decor styles – boho, coastal, tropical, and even vintage. The problem is, due to the amount of material (and labor to put the thing together), they can be SO expensive! So what do we do when something is too expensive…..? We find a way to make it ourselves! Brittney from The House That Lars Built did just that! Check out her tutorial and see how you can make one too!
4. Ombre Tassel
Hmmm, more yarn. I think I see a trend happening here! This is another SUPER easy light fixture tutorial by Miranda over at Blue Agate Abode. I love this DIY because not only is it super cute, its also a great solution for the dreaded boob light. Be right back, gotta go dismantle all my flush mounts and dye copious amounts of yarn.
5. DIY Multiple Bulb Dining Light
I love statement lighting just as much as the next gal, but holy crap this chandelier is amazing! I’m honestly gobsmacked (did i just say that? Who even am I?) that this husband and wife duo from Love & Renovations pulled this one off. You’re probably thinking, ‘uh Brianna that chandelier would blow my electrical breaker for sure’, but think again! These geniuses only wired 8 of the bulbs, the rest are fake! A truly innovative way to make it look way more expensive than it is. This project proves that DIY light fixtures are totally the way to go! This chandelier would cost thousands at a lighting store!
6. Ultra Chic Crystal Table Lamp
Crystals and geodes are everywhere right now, especially in lighting. I love how a simple change, like gluing crystals to the base of a table lamp, completely transforms the look. Which is why I adore this little DIY. From ultra boring, to ultra chic! Love this! Check out the full tutorial here.
7. Scandinavian Inspired DIY Pendant Light
This simple, yet effective, light fixture is actually a genius DIY project by Grit To Pearl. Using two wood hoops for the main structure, she alternated skinny wood strips around the edge – creating a beautiful 3D effect. Just imagine the stunning shadow this DIY light fixture would cast at night. The light oak finish gives the fixture a Scandinavian style – but this could easily be painted to suit any style!
8. BOHO Paper Leaf Light Fixture
We all know the BOHO style is becoming so popular especially in the lighting world! (check out this round up of the best boho light fixtures) But wouldn’t it be awesome to make your own? Thats exactly what Flavie decided to do, and I am in love! The gorgeous texture in this DIY light fixture adds depth and personality to her dining room. And guess what – its made out of paper!
