DIY Gardening Projects For Your Backyard

If you’re like me, you have a small backyard and would love to be able to grow your own vegetable garden. You might have tried this in the past without much success, but I’m here to tell you that it’s not as difficult as people think! Here are some great DIY gardening projects that can help turn your yard into a productive space.

DIY strawberry tower

DIY gardening projects for small backyards

A strawberry tower is a great way to grow strawberries if you have a small backyard, plus it’s super easy to make. All you need are some basic wood supplies, a few tools, and soil! This super tall one made by Shaun & Alisha will definitely produce enough strawberries for an entire family. How great is this space saving garden hack? Head over to Shaun & Alisha’s blog to read all about the full tutorial!

Build a lettuce table

Check out this lettuce gardening hack that you can easily grow on your patio.

A lettuce table is a great addition to any backyard, and it’s easy to build. The only tools you’ll need are some basic wood supplies, tools, and an old table. You can use this space for growing lettuce or other greens such as kale or chard. A lettuce table like the one Savy Gardening created is such a great idea. No more bending down to collect your lettuce or maintain the soil. Build this table and your back will thank you!

A solid wood support structure beneath the table is very important to make sure the lettuce table can withstand the weight of wet soil. Make sure you’ve assembled your table tightly to prevent wet soil from escaping. Check out Savy Gardening’s full post to see how they built it!

DIY cement block garden project

This DIY gardening project will help you create a functional garden your whole family will love.

Building your own garden bed is a great DIY project to try. It’s easy, cheap and can be done in just a few hours on the weekend. The only tools you will need are some cement blocks, standard cement mix (or construction glue if you prefer). Cement blocks are available at any home improvement store for about $2 each.

Painting your cement block garden bed is optional, but a super fun way to add a design element in your backyard. You can even take it a step further by applying a cement skim coat on top of your blocks like Delia did in her backyard. Didn’t her’s turn out fantastic? It’s easily one of my favourite DIY gardening projects. Check out her blog for the full tutorial. If you follow my blog, you know I love anything painted black. Easy DIY greenhouse

Turn your garden into a productive space with one of these simple DIY projects

This greenhouse is a simple and easy DIY gardening project that can be done in just a few hours. Greenhouses are very helpful in cold or dry climates, elongating the growth season of your garden.

You’ll need:

  • Flexible pvc piping (available at any home supply store)
  • Wire mesh fixed to the piping. You can use chicken wire or another similar material.
  • Translucent material to cover your structure – like a tarp.
  • A large hinge
  • The height of your frame should be sufficient enough so that plants can grow inside without reaching the ceiling.

If you’ve been dreaming of a garden in your backyard, but haven’t gotten around to doing anything about it, now is the time! These DIY gardening projects will help you build your own mini-garden and get some real use out of your space.
