DIY Clay Chain Link Decor
Re-fresh your coffee table with this DIY clay chain link decor piece! These coffee table chain links have been around for a while and I’ve always wanted to create my own. They are an easy way to add depth, texture, and interest to any coffee table decor. One day it dawned on me – why don’t I make a chain out of air-dry clay? I love working with air dry clay. It’s so easy and simple to mould it into any shape you want, plus no baking required!

Making this clay chain link was super quick and easy – plus it was so fun! This is a simple DIY craft project anyone can make. All you need to make this DIY clay chain link coffee table decor is some air-dry clay. I literally got mine from the dollar store – but this one by Crayola is another great option. I’m totally digging the natural terra cotta finish, but am tempted to make a 2nd one using white clay!

STEP 1 : Roll the clay
Starting with a ball of clay, roll it out into a long strand using the palm of your hand. I used a small cutting board to protect my coffee table, but you can use anything – even a bit of scrap paper. Be careful to keep an even thickness throughout your strand of clay.
STEP 2 : Make the first link
Join the strand together, forming a loop. Gently run your finger over the joint line to minimize the crack. This will be the first loop in your chain.
STEP 3 : Make the 2nd link
Repeat step 1 making sure the strand thickness is equal to the first loop. Once you’ve rolled out the 2nd strand, run it through the first loop before joining it together. Make sure the the loops are equal in size.
STEP 4: Repeat
Repeat as many times as you want! I love DIY projects like this where YOU are in control of the end result! Start experimenting with different loop sizes, shapes, and lengths to fit your home decor perfectly! The possibilities with this project are endless!
