5 DIY Benches You Can Make Yourself

If you follow my blog you’ll know I JUST finished a mini renovation in my kitchen. I’m so happy with how it looks, you can check out the before and after blog post here. Now that my kitchen is finished I need to refresh my front entry. I’m in dire need of a small bench to place under my mirror. The problem is my entry way is so narrow, only 40″ wide (hello apartment dweller problems) and that only leaves room for a skinny bench. After scouring the internet for a bench that will work in my space, I’ve decided to make my own! Before I start my own project I gathered five of the best benches you can make yourself. (Thank you Pinterest)

DIY HAIRPIN BENCH

This DIY hairpin bench I found on Emma Magazine is a great idea for a custom bench. The width and length can be customized to any dimension you want. Seriously considering this option for my own entryway. And the faux fur upholstery adds so much texture, a perfect combination with the hairpin leg.

WEST ELM KNOCK OFF BENCH

How genius is this West Elm knock off bench from Home Made by Carmona?! I think its a fantastic idea and I can’t believe she pulled it off for only $15. This DIY bench does require a few power tools, but is totally worth the effort! I love a good knock off and his bench proves that you can make anything if you set your mind to it.

 DIY COFFEE TABLE BENCH

Who else needs this bomb bench in their life? The ladies over at Style Me Pretty took a cheap IKEA coffee table and turned it into this chic bench, perfect for the end of a bed. Using just pre-cut foam, velvet fabric, and gold spray paint. Boom! You’ve got yourself an expensive looking bench.

If you know me you know I LOVE IKEA hacks. If you love em’ too, check out this post on IKEA storage hacks. If that’s not your cup of tea, check out this one that’s all about turning your IKEA products into expensive pieces of furniture.

DIY UPHOLSTERED X BENCH

I am constantly blown away by the talent of fellow DIY’ers and Sara from Twelve On Main is no exception. She made this uber professional looking bench from scratch! I mean, come on! The talent this woman has is incredible. I for one am seriously impressed. I love the classic farmhouse X base and it looks perfect with the buffalo check fabric. Head over to her blog to see exactly how she did it!

IKEA HACK MUDCLOTH UPHOLSTERED BENCH

You all know I LOVE a good IKEA hack, which is why I was so excited to find this little bench by Alice and Lois. They added an upholstered cushion to the SKOGSTA IKEA bench. I love the added flair and pattern of the mudcloth. It has a very BOHO Scandinavian vibe. I also really like the skinny profile, so easy to fit in a variety of small spaces! And as an added bonus, this DIY bench is super easy to make. All you need to complete this project is foam, fabric, and a staple gun.
